One pickup, two names
On mobile.de and in many documents it is called ‘Dodge RAM’. Until 2009, RAM was a Dodge model line; since then, RAM has been a brand in its own right. Both names mean the same vehicle, and you will find both on this page.
Inside, the RAM 1500 is a large touring vehicle with plenty of space in both rows of seats. At the back there is a load bed; with the RamBox option, it gets lockable storage compartments on either side. Its length of around six metres takes some thought when parking; on the motorway you hardly notice it.
Everyday life with a pickup
A RAM 1500 is around six metres long and a good two metres wide, without mirrors. It usually does not fit into a standard single garage, but with a little practice it fits well into normal parking spaces. Depending on the version, the braked towing capacity is up to 3.5 tonnes. The RAM pulls horse trailers, boat trailers and construction machinery with ease. The binding figure is in the vehicle documents; we will give it to you in advance for every vehicle.
The load bed carries what has no room in an SUV. If you need it closed, choose a cover, a roller shutter or a hardtop. Whether a vehicle already has one is stated in its description.
V8 or six-cylinder
Many RAM 1500 pickups have the 5.7-litre HEMI V8. The newer model years have the 3.0-litre ‘Hurricane’ straight-six, with 420 hp in the standard version and 540 hp as the HO.
Which engine suits you depends on how you drive. The six-cylinder has more power and torque than the previous V8. The V8 sounds the way you would expect an American pickup to sound, and it is well suited to conversion to LPG.
LPG in the RAM
Fuel is the main cost of running a RAM. With an LPG system from our workshop, you cover most of your mileage on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG, sold as autogas), which costs considerably less than petrol at the pump.
With the 5.7-litre HEMI, the conversion is well proven: the engine has port injection, and the gas is injected at the same point. With the direct-injection six-cylinder, the conversion is more involved. We work out beforehand whether it pays off for your mileage.
Workshop, purchase and test drive
In our workshop in Oppin, we service and repair the RAM: servicing, HU/AU (the German roadworthiness and emissions test), brakes, air conditioning, tyres and bodywork. We source genuine parts. If you tow a lot, you should have the brakes and the towbar checked regularly.

Which driving licence do I need for a RAM 1500?
In Germany, a category B licence is usually enough, because the RAM 1500 is below 3.5 tonnes maximum authorised mass. With a trailer: up to 3.5 tonnes maximum authorised mass of the combination, category B; up to 4.25 tonnes with code 96; above that, category BE.
How much can a RAM 1500 tow?
Depending on the version, up to 3.5 tonnes braked. The binding figure is in the vehicle documents; we will tell you in advance for every vehicle in stock.
Does a RAM 1500 fit in a normal garage?
Usually not. At around six metres, it is longer than a standard single garage. Measure your garage before you buy; we will give you the exact dimensions of the vehicle.
